Overview
PlugInSolarMap.com (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is an independent informational website about plug-in solar in the United States. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it is used. We do not sell your personal data.
Data we collect
Email address
If you sign up for law-change notifications on the site, we store your email address with our email service provider (Resend or Mailchimp). We use it only to send you updates about plug-in solar legislation. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send.
Affiliate click data
When you click a product link, we log the product ID, your state (if known from the page URL), a timestamp, HTTP referrer, and user-agent string. This is used to measure which products are clicked most and to verify affiliate commissions. No name or email is attached to these logs.
Calculator inputs
ZIP codes and electricity rates entered into our calculators are used only to generate your results in real time. They are not stored on our servers.
Analytics
We use the following analytics services to understand how the site is used:
- Vercel Analytics & Speed Insights: Collects aggregated, privacy-friendly page view and performance data. Does not use cookies or cross-site tracking. See Vercel's privacy policy at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Google Analytics 4 (GA4): If enabled, collects page views, session duration, and general device/browser information via a first-party cookie. IP addresses are anonymized. You can opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
We use Google AdSense to display ads on this site. Google AdSense may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites on the internet. This includes the DoubleClick cookie.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings or aboutads.info/choices. Non-personalized ads will still be shown.

Affiliate links

We do not set first-party cookies ourselves beyond what Google Analytics may set (if enabled). Third-party cookies may be set by Google AdSense and by retailers when you click affiliate links. You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings.
Data retention & security
Email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe. Affiliate click logs are stored in temporary server storage and are not linked to any personal identity. We do not use encryption beyond what our hosting provider (Vercel) supplies by default (TLS in transit). We do not store payment data of any kind.
Children’s privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
