What this site is

PlugInSolarMap.com is an independent informational website about plug-in and balcony solar systems in the United States. We track state legislation, explain laws in plain English, and help homeowners and renters calculate whether a plug-in solar kit makes financial sense for them.

The site is operated by a small independent team and is funded primarily through affiliate commissions and, in the future, display advertising.

Affiliate relationships

Some links on this site — specifically links to products in our product catalog and state pages — are affiliate links. This means:

• If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission from the retailer (typically 3–5% of the sale price).
• You pay the same price whether or not you use our affiliate link. The commission comes from the retailer's margin, not added to your cost.
• We are currently an affiliate with Amazon Associates. We may add additional affiliate partnerships (e.g., direct manufacturer programs) in the future.

How we maintain editorial independence

Affiliate relationships do not influence our product recommendations, law summaries, or calculator methodology. Specifically:

• Products are recommended based on UL certification, state law compliance, warranty, and user reviews — not commission rate.
• We include "cons" for every product, even high-commission ones.
• Law and regulatory data is sourced from official government documents. We do not accept payment to alter legal information.
• Calculator assumptions (inverter efficiency, degradation rate, sun hours) are based on published engineering standards, not tuned to inflate savings estimates.
• We flag products with "affiliate link pending" when no real link exists, rather than showing a placeholder that earns us nothing — we'd rather you know than be misled.

Advertising

This site does not currently run display advertising. If we add display ads in the future, this page will be updated. Any sponsored content will be clearly labeled as such.
